Megadonors Pivot Back to Trump; Billionaire John Paulson Leads Fundraiser

The GOP’s mega-donors are now humming a different tune as they line up to attend President Donald Trump’s upcoming fundraiser, hosted by billionaire John Paulson in his Palm Beach home in Florida. Each attendee is expected to pay around $814,600.

Among those included in the guest list were sports team owners Woody Johnson and Todd Rickets and casino magnate Steve Wynn.

Co-chairs of the fundraiser are hedge fund billionaire Robert Mercer and his daughter Rebekah Mercer.

Sources close to Trump describe the event as a “come-home-to-Trump-moment” after known megadonors initially expressed doubts about Trump. This will also be the first major fundraiser since the former president clinched the Republican nomination.

Paulson remarked, “I am pleased to support President Trump in his re-election efforts. His policies on the economy, energy, immigration, and foreign policy will be very beneficial for the country.”

“We are receiving an overwhelming amount of support from donors.”

Donors mentioned by the host committee were Wynn, oil mogul Harold Hamm, New York Jets owner Johnson, Chicago Cubs owner Ricketts, former Trump administration secretary of commerce Wilbur Ross, and former Georgia senator Kelly Loeffler and her husband, Jeff Sprecher, CEO of Intercontinental Exchange and chair of the New York Stock Exchange.

Also included are John Catsimidis, Cantor Fitzgerald CEO Howard Lutnick, and Budget Suites of America founder Robert Bigelow. WWE co-founder Linda McMahon, the former head of the Small Business Administration.

Former opponents expected to attend the event are Senator Tim Scott, Governor Doug Burgum, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.

The fundraiser also aims to raise funds for Trump’s bond in his New York civil case and run his presidential campaign.

The price tag for the fundraiser ranges from $250,000 per person for those who serve on the “host committee” to $814,600 per person to serve as a “chairman.” Perks for those contributing at the top level include dinner seating at Trump’s table, according to the invitation.

Early last week, Trump floated Paulson as a possible Treasury Secretary if reelected.
